Why Invest With Higher Ground?
Wade Graham officially launched Higher Ground in 2006 as an alternative to "conventional" investing. Wade was dissatisfied with the classic investment industry and was searching for a more hands-on approach to making his money work for him. If you have done any research into how mutual funds and the financial industry actually work you will know the problems he was encountering.
In early 2001, Wade moved from Calgary to Banff and started renting out his condo in Calgary and, although he didn't realize it at the time, this event would be the catalyst for the development of Higher Ground Real Estate Investments.
Wade quickly realized two things:
1) You can supplement a lot of traditional income (otherwise known as a job) with income from Real Estate and
2) That he didn't know a thing about how to do it properly!
This lead to the next phase: Education. Like most junior investors, Wade was hungry for knowledge. How do I actually buy rental property? Many books, most notably from Robert Allan and Don R. Campbell, a few years of involvement with the Real Estate Investment Network combined with mentorship guidance from some of the industry's top investors and the formal education was well on its way.
Finally, with the trust of the first few investors, Wade took his knowledge and did what few actually do...took action!! This is truly where most investors fall down. They don't execute the strategy. Yes, not every property was a joy to own but valuable experience was gained along the way. As with most investors starting out, if you survive this stage, you're well on your way! Wade's solid vision gained even more clarity with growth and after the apprenticeship phase was complete, he narrowed his market and focus.
